What is 18percent?

18percent is a free and global online peer-to-peer support group centered around mental health. Our community is hosted on the app Slack.

Why did you start 18percent?

Our founder, Zach’s close family friend Louis passed away after struggling for 3 years with schizoaffective disorder / bipolar type 1. In his honor, Zach teamed up with David to start 18percent.

What is Slack?

Slack is an internal chat service that offers “channels” for community members to hang out and spark conversation.

Can anyone join?

Everyone is welcome to join, but you must abide by the Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct allows our members to feel safe. We prefer you don’t promote anything to our members. If you unsure, you can direct message a moderator.

What does 18percent mean?

At any given moment, 18 percent of the United States population, suffers from some mental illness. (Source)

What is the goal of 18percent?

18percent’s goal is for members to learn from valuable resources, make long lasting friendships, and share their story. We aspire to be the largest online community for people struggling with mental illness with a long-term mission to end the stigma of mental illness.

Are we affiliated with any outside organizations?

This project is fully funded by two friends Zach & David. 18percent is not affiliated with any companies, organizations or 3rd parties.

Is it free?

Yes, 100% free and always will be.

Can I be anonymous?

All emails are hidden, protecting anonymity.

Where are members in this group located?

Like mental health, 18percent is global. We have members in every major city and country.

Why do you need my email?

We ask for your email in order to sign up for the 18percent Slack group and receive occasional emails to the latest news on the community.
